This program provides experienced tradespeople with an opportunity to have their applicable trades-related work experience, skills and knowledge assessed against the standards for certification in an Alberta-designated trade. If you are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a Foreign National or have work experience from a country outside of Canada, you may be eligible to apply for the Trades Qualifier – Work Experience program.
You are eligible to apply for the Trades Qualifier – Work Experience program if:
prior to application submission, you have satisfied the minimum required months and hours of hands-on work experience in the trade you are applying for (see Program Minimum Requirements chart),
you ensure your work experience time can be verified (confirmed to be legitimate and accurate by a current employer contact), and
you ensure ALL program requirements (competency assessment and theory exam) can be completed within the 18 months of assessment approval.
If you previously attempted the Trades Qualifier – Work Experience program exam in the same trade and failed twice, a Training Plan must be completed and approved by AIT before the third and every subsequent exam attempt.
