Leiden Educational Institutions ( LOI ) is a Dutch commercial educational institution that provides distance learning and classroom education. The head office is located in Leiden. The institution was founded in 1923 by IJ Sloos in Leiden as an Institute for Economic Sciences , where students could take a correspondence home course for the MO certificate in accounting. With the expansion of the offering to Economics and Statistics, the name was changed to Institute for Commercial Sciences. In 1941, this institute and the Dutch College for General Studies jointly founded the Leiden Educational Institutions. However, the German occupier stopped the educational activities, so that further development of the courses could only begin after the Second World War.

In 2019 it was announced that competitor NCOI wanted to take over the LOI. This led to an investigation by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets to determine whether sufficient competition would remain in the education market.

The LOI offers an online learning environment for all courses, including various e-learning facilities such as online lectures, webinars and multimedia study material. The part-time bachelor’s programs and Associate degrees of the LOI Higher Education Foundation are recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science ; this happens after accreditation by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organization ).
